At the moment I have mixed emotions but at the end of the day all I and everyone else wants is the best for our little Miujiza and to continue to support her in her mother Moyo's memory.
I am delighted that you will remain to have contact with her and help in her care and I thank you deeply for keeping us all informed on your blog and through Paula on BigCatFanz.
All I wish for our little Miracle girl is that the rest of her life is one long exquisite Miracle; she surely deserves the very best that life can offer to her.

Jambo Jackson,

Maybe not the news we were all hoping for but, then again, I realise that KWS has the expertise on their hand. I'm sure they will take good care of little Miujisa.

I'm just curious to know what the future holds out for her. I hope we'll be able to monitor her progress in one way or the other.

Thanks for updating.

Salaams Xavier.

Jackson, thank you for updating us. While it may not be the news we wanted to hear, it seems that everyone involved has Miujisa's best interests at heart and I am so glad that you will continue to play a part in her life. We all just want our little miracle to have a safe, comfortable and happy life - we owe that to Moyo - and as long as that is the case then perhaps its not so important where she is. I only hope that we will continue to get updates on her throughout her (hopefully) many years ahead.

Your involvement with Miujisa is very heartwarming. At the end of the day this animal's future has to be handled with great care. I feel hopeful that the KWS will play its part in allowing Miujisa to be re-introduced back into a natural environment.

I think everyone would love it to be where she was born but perhaps that is not to be.

Decisions have had to be made and I am pleased that she has a dedicated man like Jackson who also wants the best for this little toto. I will be riveted to keep finding out how she is doing.

Kind regards

Hello Jackson
The transfer of Miujisa to Nairobi Orphanage was not the aim of the Miujisa Fund. I guess you did not have the choice. I paid a visit to the Nairobi Orphanage some years ago ; captive animals within small fenced areas. If this is the future of our little girl, then invest money for that was a big mistake. I may be wrong, but I am unaware of any project from KWS to reintroduce that kind of animals in the wild.
In Southern Africa, where cheetah breeding projects are really successful (Hanssen farm at Okonjima, De Wildt Cheetah research Centre,...) they reintroduce cheetahs in the Wild, in areas free of human conflicts, ideally in Game reserves where predator population is low. Why wouldn't it be possible for Miujisa ? (even if she is not relocated in the Mara, where she is at high risk of lion ambush like Toki's brother)

Like everyone else, I have been following the progress of little Miujisa and am grateful for all your updates and photos.
However, whilst many of us have had an image of Miujisa running free in her homeland within Masai Mara, I think we must put sentiment to one side and face reality: to keep her in the Mara would probably end in tragedy.
Cheetah cubs normally stay with their mother until they are 14 – 18 months old and learn everything from their mum. Miujisa was very young when Moyo was killed and would not have learned anywhere near enough for her to survive being reintroduced when she is older, even with all the loving care and training given her by the game wardens. Also, being female, she would live alone. Male cheetahs, as we know, do stay together and have been reintroduced into the wild with a degree of success in South Africa, where orphans have been raised together to form a “family” unit. We mustn’t forget too that Toki is not totally free, despite Simon King’s efforts and all those involved in his and his brother’s rescue.
If Miujisa were to remain and be reintroduced back into the Mara when she is old enough, she would face the same challenges her mother faced with the lions, etc. etc. but without the skills she would have learnt from her mother to aid her. Very likely, she would opt for the “easy” option of taking her prey from the local farmers and face being shot.
To my knowledge, the Masai Mara does not have national park status. It is a national reserve and people can shoot animals if they are attacked. Although it is pretty much unheard of for a cheetah to attack humans, it is still a risk. Also, the Masai Mara National Reserve is administered by the local council – Narok – and not the Kenya Wildlife Services. I would suspect that the local council are not known for reinvesting in the reserve, despite the huge revenues it receives from the gate takings. (You only have to see the shocking conditions of the tracks within the reserve, criss-crossing all over the place and the lack of policing of the vehicles straying from the defined trails). Maybe it is Narok who are unwilling to keep Miujisa at the Mara, despite the donations being made for her?
We can but hope that the right decision has been made for Miujisa’s safety and security. Who knows, perhaps the KWS are planning on a programme of cheetah rehabilitation in Kenya? If not, then maybe a private programme could be planned, so that at least there is something already in place for future orphaned cubs?

Hello Jackson/All,
Well I don't know what to think, I'm happy to hear Muijisa has a place to belong and be cared for, but at the same time I feel she belongs where her mother once walked, I don't know all the technicalities of her new home, but I am glad that you yourself Jackson can keep in touch with our small friend.
I would just like to know and if anyone can answer this, then I thankyou; my question is, A few years down the line when Miujisa is old enough to fend for herself, will she be realesed? And if so where, the Mara or another game reserve? Or will she be domisticated and will continue to be looked after by humans in care if the orphanage she resides at now?

Thanks for the update Jackson, it has some what relieved me :)

Danny

I have mixed feelings.
I understan that rehabilitating any cat has it's problems, but I'm saddened that she's in effectively a zoo.
If there's any chance of her going back to where she was born then that has to be investigated & I know jackson you'll do your best to get her back to the mara.
Thank you for all your updates

Hi Jackson,

Thank you very much for keeping us posted.

Gutting that Miujisa is in a cage though. If she is going to have a full cheetah life later on, then she will need to spend her childhood learning how. Is there anything we can do to help? (E.g. write to someone?)
